Park End Moss

Today's the day ............................ to transform

We're still shrouded in mist around here - but that didn't stop us going out for a bit of fresh air.  We were just going to have a quick half on the way but somehow that turned into a (very nice) pub lunch of roast beef and all the trimmings.  So to walk it all off, we strolled down through Brigsteer Woods to Park End Moss.

Park End Moss is a newly created wetland site of around 30ha lying on the western edge of the National Trust  Sizergh Estate.  They had some funding from Natural England  back in 2014 to transform what was an area of degraded farmland into a haven for wildlife.  They did this by restoring the water levels and allowing wetland habitats to re-colonise.  There's a new bird hide too at the edge of the open water which makes it easier to get a closer view.

It's a slow process but eventually it might be possible to see bitterns, bearded tits, marsh harriers - and all the other fascinating wildlife that you get at RSPB Leighton Moss.  Now that would be something to get excited about .......................
