Hilbre Island
Sis-in-law suggested a walk to Hilbre Island. HH stayed home and Thaisa, Marcelo and Phil stayed in bed, but C, J, Henry and Gabby came along, muffled up to the hilt. I hadn't realised how just how icy the wind was, so my Christmas present of a warm er... thingummyjig... to pull up over my nose came in very useful.
The tide was still retreating and forming fabulous patterns in the sand (extra photos). Great for photographers, but not so good for C and sis-in-law, who only had trainers, so their feet were wet and frozen immediately. The kids hadn't realised just how far it was and thought we might head back from the first island, but got their second wind and made it almost to the tip of Hilbre Island itself. The wind was so strong, we might have been blown off if we'd ventured any further. We stopped for snack on the middle island on our way back, by which time more walkers were making their way over from the mainland, and were back home by about 1.30. It was the perfect adventure for Boxing Day morning, even the kids would agree.
