Orange ladybird
I led another mini work party at the nature reserve this morning, just five of us continuing to coppice old hazel trees. Inevitably, a few overwintering invertebrates are disturbed and the highlight today was an orange ladybird, Halzia sedecimguttata. Here it is seen heading for a new cavity in the bark, where it can find some peace again.
