Ammi Visnaga - the spiral flower
Family: Apiaceae
I don't think I've ever seen this plant before, nor do I know its name and I was drawn to look more closely by the spiral formation on some of the flowering heads.
Apparently it's a member of the carrot family that occurs, according to Wikipedia, in Europe, Asia, and North Africa and is known to have medicinal uses (and some unpleasant side effects).
It was growing in one of the beds of the Walled Garden at Cannon Hall where we had lunch today.
My brother has now taken my mum back to her own home as she wanted to see how she felt about being there. She has promised to ring us if she feels in any way wobbly - at least we are not too far away to drive over there.
