Canal Closure

A 5 km section of the Union Canal is closed so that the embankments may be examined, so the water must be drained and the resident fish be relocated. At today's open day at Linlithgow Basin we saw a sample of fish that had been rescued, including roach, perch a small pike (see extra). It was obvious that the water level had already dropped, the work is expected to take six weeks, having begun on 9th January.

There will be another open day on 4th February, again at Linlithgow Basin between 13.00 and 15.00, also the Slateford Aqueduct will be closed  for five weeks, as work begins on 23rd January - plenty of opportunities to see canal work in progress.
