Day 019/17. A lunchtime stroll in the sun

The winter sun tempted me out into the fresh air at lunchtime today. I picked up the big zoom and headed off to the Itchen. We are very lucky having this stretch of the river and old canal just 10 minutes from home.
I was hoping to see and photograph Water Vole (but I am notoriously unlucky in finding them). But I did see a Goldcrest, a Grey Lapwing and a pair of Mute Swans dipping for some tasty weed.
But the highlight and my photo of today is this Little Egret. They are spreading inland in Southern England and are rarely seen in numbers much further north than us. This chap was enjoying the winter sun while wading for his lunch.
