Blackwater castle
Herself had been invited to view a holy well in the grounds of Blackwater Castle. The owner gave us a marvelous tour of the well down by the river, the grounds and buildings, including inside the tower with its shiela-na-gig and down a subteranean well (not the holy one) wiith 200 steps. It is the most impressive site with examples of architecture stretching back to the 15th Century with a suspected Bronze Age enclosure too, all kept in great condition by its owners who let it as an up-market wedding venue (some NZ blipers may recognise it!)
Together with another 5 holy wells ticked off the list today, it was pretty busy!
