Citizenship
Today has been pretty much spent in two meetings - and colleagues from Citizens Advice featured prominently in both of them. This morning I attended a steering group meeting for the superb Advice on Prescription project, which allows GPs and other health professionals to refer patients - whose mental health is being affected by e.g. poverty or debt - for advice and practical support in addressing the causes of their stress/depression/anxiety rather than giving them medication to manage the symptoms.
This afternoon we hosted our regular BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) Mental Health Strategy Group, at which we discussed the impact of racially motivated hate crime on the mental health of the aforementioned groups of local residents. Amongst those in attendance was today's Blip subject, Hyatt, who works for South Liverpool Citizens Advice's 'Diversity in Delivery' project which aims to increase access to services, justice and opportunities for local BAMER community members. I thought she looked good against this retro wallpaper!
And, inspired by that wallpaper, let's listen to the wonderful Talking Heads playing the equally wonderful '(Nothing But) Flowers' (also featuring Kirsty MacColl and Johnny Marr. What's not to love?!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3t5nmgRVMs
