Monte Palace Gardens

Today was the best weather we've had for well over a week - the clouds lifted a bit and it was warm and sunny in Funchal. However, it's the day we'd allocated to taking the cable car up to Monte, and that extra height makes a big difference; it wasn't so warm up there! Still, it was warmer than if we'd picked a dull day when Monte often has its head in the clouds.

The gardens are utterly delightful, just as we remembered them. I thought I'd take fewer photos this year, having been there before, but I probably took just as many. I have chosen this one - looking down on one of the bigger pools. (The garden is built on a hill and is terraced, with many different garden themes within the whole.)

Thanks to all who've been following our holiday snaps and have left lovely comments and accolades - I'm more than glad to share our enthusiasm for this gorgeous island. Just under two days left before we return to Blighty, but am already prepared to feel glad that it's happened rather than sad that it's coming to a close. We shall be back, fates willing!
