Garbage Day
Garbage pickup is a four person operation here in Mexico, unlike the town I left in the United States that automated pickup so a single driver was all that was needed. Here the driver is responsible for letting everyone know they are coming, hence the bell he is holding in his left hand. The young man on the back of the truck wearing boots and a red hat is the can hauler. The two kids on the top of the trash are the sorters. They are responsible for separating plastic, the reason for the big black bag hanging off the back end, metal and other recyclables. Seems like a remarkably efficient system, even with four bodies involved. Garbage and recycling picked up at the same time, plus you don't have to sort the two (though we do try to help out by using two cans). All accomplished for 10 pesos, left on top of the can prior to pickup.
