No Longer A Gem, Aylesford

A beautiful, crisp, sunny day today but bitingly cold. I was so glad to finish work yesterday and just get home as I'd had a very mixed day. I'd learnt how to send high res images by wetransfer, something I hadn't known how to do before. Turns out it's very simple and quick to use - a bit of technology that even a technophobe like me can use.
However, the rest of the day was much more annoying - being told how to do your job by someone who hasn't been there and done it themselves does feel like a bit of a kick to the gut. I take great pride in my work and I always want to make a painting look the best it can, whether it's worth a few hundred pounds or much, much more. if that means taking a bit more time, unframing it to light it better, squaring it up properly, or working on it post production then I will. Also, in the long run if you do the job properly the first time around you have a lot fewer reshoots coming back to you. I always want to be able to say that I always did the best that I could - quality is always better than quantity.
Today's shot is of the front of the now long closed Little Gem pub in our village. It's been left to get into a terrible state and was very unlikely to ever have become a pub again as it was so small and would probably have been uneconomic to run. After a battle the owner has been given permission to turn it into a private home. I also really liked all the drips from the paint and how it contrasted with the boarded up window. The extra shot captured today's beautiful light through the window of an empty house a stone's throw from the Little Gem.
