Hon in Edinburgh

Saskia (Kaiho)

As noted by several contributors, the end of the fringe festival has hit Edinburgh and many of the temporary buildings were being taken away. It didn't help with one's mood at work that it was a quiet Bank Holiday in town, and the weather clearly decided to wrap up the festival with the most depressing example in its repertoire.

At lunchtime I had a chat with someone from the Book Festival, and she told me today was the last day for the public. So even that event is no longer available. I took her portrait and it wouldn't have been the worst thing I've shown here.

However, on my way home I heard music drifiting in from Princes Street. And not derived from bagpipes, or pumped through the PA systems of the tourist shops. It was bucketing down with rain at that point and I really just wanted to head straight for the bus stop but I thought what the heck, let's investigate. I was in time for this impressive sounding band Kaiho, as they were finishing their final song in the bandstand. I would love to say it was in front of an adoring crowd, but most of the attendees were huddled in a gazebo sited to one side. Which is actually quite fortunate because it let me get close to the band.

I asked to take this shot of the lead singer before they packed up for the day. I just like the simplicity of her striking face against the background, so no need for any fancy poses.

A personal reminder of this year's festival, mostly pictures that I didn't choose for blip.
