Love Me, Love My Dog
I didn't get the picture, but I want you to picture the scene.
We got out the car in the supermarket car park. I looked over here - On a sunny day, this vista always reminds me of a microsoft screen saver. Today, not so much.
What was there though, was a man walking his dog. The dog was a big red Labrador, and it was walking on an extendable leash.
As his owner walked, the dog bounded up the slope, lolloping with a bouncy gait, reached as high as he could, and then threw himself prone on the ground, head pointing down the slope and then commenced wagging his tail, no his whole body, so that he slid down the embankment on the wet grass.
I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing, and even more astounded as I watched the dog repeat the process a second time, becoming more animated each time, with wouffs accompanying the downward skid.
Himself was buried deep in the boot of the car, sorting bags, out for our shop, and I said, "look, look, you've got to watch the dog", Laughing out loud as he completed the louping and the hill rolling a third time.
Himself stood up from the car, and looked just as the dog raced up a fourth time; I laughed in anticipation and as the dog turned to throw himself down; his eyes caught mine, and he stopped mid pose, and watched me. Himself said, "he knows you are watching". So we turned our heads and averted our eyes.
A quick glance back and he was still sitting there, a top the hill, focused absolutely on me. His walker turned in the direction of the doggies gaze, and laughed and shook his head...
We walked on farther away, and I glanced back once... and the big puppy had recommenced his walk.. he did stand at the top of the hill once more, but glanced over to see if he was being watched, and ran back down to his da.
I think this is a sign that a I am really a dog person and that himself and me should have one :-)
