2017 Sunday -- Sun, Sand, and Surfers
We had eaten late breakfast at the Sea Shanty restaurant, which is within walking distance of our place. We did not walk because it was quite windy. After breakfast we decided to take a drive to look at the waves, the shoreline, and the tide-level. The crowd of people was evidence that the inland temperatures had risen and that folks were thrilled to not be house-bound by rain.
We stopped at the condos north of the pier and could see that there were lots of surfers on the south side, so we drove over to that parking lot and found one parking space so we sat there in the warmth of the sun, facing the waves, watching at least a dozen, maybe more, surfers.
Because Mr. Fun had been a surfer when he was a kid, we talked about the shape of waves, the size of boards, the value of wetsuits, and various techniques. I asked about "shooting the pier" and we discussed that strategy and the danger of it when moments later I was capturing a video on my phone camera as one surfer dropped into a wave and angled left toward the pier and surfed right between the pier pilings. That was quite a show.
Then we headed back to the house so we could feed the pups and enjoy the day. About an hour from sundown we went to the south beach area with the dogs to walk. It was very windy, but still there were lots of people and lots of dogs enjoying the shoreline. Then we got back to the house to watch a 5:30 sunset as the clouds assisted in adding a marblized effect as the sun transformed that fabric of mist into an amber wonder.
