Dublin Airport
We've been invited to pitch to Dublin Airport and after several weeks of preparation, Steve and I went over there, today. I've been to Dublin a couple of times before: once when I was working for Scottish Provident and once with the Minx.
The business trip, which must have been in 1999, was joyous. The chap I had gone to see, Shay Hiney, met me at my hotel the evening before my meeting, just to welcome me and, if memory serves, to buy me a drink. His team, whom I met the following day, were equally charming and insisted on taking me to lunch en masse.
The trip over there with the Minx - last year, I think, - was also a very happy couple of days, including exploring Temple Bar, riding on an open top bus, visiting the Guinness factory and meeting up with a old Twitter friend of mine, Luci.
Steve's experience has been less uplifting, consisting of four attempts to get to Dublin, all foiled either by hangovers or relationships ending (and, perhaps, some combination of the two). Still, I'm not superstitious and I was confident that he'd make it today and indeed he did. It was a nice round trip, actually. Marginally more time-consuming and expensive than our more usual trip to Heathrow, and with more getting partially undressed for security people.
The presentation went well, too, (mostly to Steve's credit) and apart from that we spent the day chatting, either on the move, or sat in airport franchises, eating and drinking (coffee in the morning, a beer in the evening). It would have been nice to spend the evening there, too - in Dublin itself, not the airport - but here's hoping we'll have that opportunity!
