St Alban's Cathedral

After spending too many hours sitting in front of my computer screen, I was keen to get out and get some fresh air, so we headed into St Albans and took a walk across the park to the cathedral, where we bought ourselves a pot of tea and a slice of cake in the "Abbot's Kitchen" as they call the cafe there.

We then spent some time walking around this magnificent building. The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban, to give it its full name, is built near the site of the grave of Alban, the first British Christian martyr. This site is the oldest continuous site of Christian worship in Great Britain. The present building was started in 1077.

On each occasion that I visit, I seem to find something new that I haven't seen before.  Sitting in the nave, listening to music played on the organ, is a very restful way to spend time.
