Goodbye family and hello to Koh Jum
Thailand 2017, Day 9
Back-blipped on Thursday 2nd February
At 8:30 we gave each of our family a last kiss and cuddle and clambered into the truck that was to take us to the island pier. They were leaving about 3 hours later for a boat to Phuket, a flight to Bangkok then another flight to Taiwan. I always hate goodbyes with them, especially as now, when we don't know when we'll see them next.
Our speedboat was about 10 minutes early which was good (except if we'd arrived with 5 minutes to spare we would have missed it!). We sped over the sea to Ao Nang on the mainland, where we then bartered for a taxi ride to a pier in Krabi. Once there we purchased our ferry tickets and sat in the designated waiting area. About 15 minutes before the ferry was due we were then told to get into a large truck as the ferry was going to leave from a different pier about 5 minutes away (actually 15 minutes). We never did find out why. Anyway, we eventually boarded the ferry towards Koh Lanta. We needed to get off at Koh Jum, an island midway between Krabi and Koh Lanta. The ferry stopped mid-water, and we then clambered over the side and onto a long-tailed boat which took us ashore. As we've done this trip before, we knew to wear waterproof shoes as we had to jump over the sides of the boat and into the water when we reached the shore, and the boat lads passed our luggage over from the boat and onto the sand.
Our accommodation for the next few days is another bamboo bungalow, about 25 metres from the beach and sea. The restaurant here has a fantastic reputation, so we enjoyed yet another superb Thai meal in the evening, accompanied by fireworks being let off in the nearby village, to celebrate Chinese New Year.
This is the view from where we enjoyed our sundowners this evening.
