Molesworth Station

We are taking a trip l have long wanted to; the Molesworth Station is the biggest hill station farm in New Zealand at 181,000 hectares with over 10,000 head of cattle on it. It ranges in altitude from 550 metres to 2100 metres. It does not have any sheep on it anymore (this merino ram was photographed just outside the station) as they had ruined the land by over grazing.

The land scape is just spectacular with beautiful corn coloured grass on huge rolling hills and mountains. A certain amount of damage had been done to the road and the few historic buildings on the station in the last Kaikoura earthquake but the road is repaired now. The road that runs through the Molesworth is open to the public between October and Easter after that winter reigns and l should imagine is particularly inhospitable. It is a gravel road.
