Common Merganser

I haven't seen this fellow before but the minute I saw the reddish bill I knew he was something new, at least for me.  This is another diving duck.  They're comically tricky to photograph because just as you get them in focus they dive and then come up in a completely different spot.  You can't guess where that is because sometimes they put a fair distance between the dive spot and the surface spot.  Once they pop up you start all over again but then they dive before you're ready.  This can go on for some time until you finally get the best of them.  I suspect they enjoy the game more than the photographer does.
