Persistance pays off

Almost five years ago I blipped a picture of David Mayo at the funders day for a project In Campbeltown  which I was assisting as the local MSP - the famous "wee pictures" which was at that time the longest continually operating cinema in these islands.

David and Jane  Mayo were, and are , the guiding spirits of the project to transform this great community owned and operated facility into something sustainable for the 21st century.  I was , and am, pleased  to do whatever I can to help and support them and the funders day was a chance to enthuse potential backers with their vision.

The project was not an easy one to get going.   There was interest but the initial plans were seen as too ambitious and had to be scaled back.  There were also other projects being funded from national organisations in the town, most notably the Town Hall.

None the less the Mayo's persisted and persistence pays off.

It was fantastic to be with them today and get a tour of the major work now well underway to achieve their dream.  Sometime this year the "Wee Pictures" will re-open in a superbly restored building and with a second screen as well as fully up to date facilities and equipment.

in April 2012 I blipped David standing in from the screen in the auditorium explaining what could be done.  Here he is in front of the same screen today though it is now behind  the scaffolding.

I can't  wait to take the third picture of the final outcome of that admirable persistence.
