Dream job?!
We went to sandakan today and one place we visited was this cave. In it there are bats and swiftlets. The floor is about 2 metres deep in bat poo and alive with cockroaches and other bugs.
The swiftlets' nests are harvested 3 times a year for bird nest soup. The jests sell for about £1000 per kg. In the cave were 3 huts and outside there were a further 2. Men stay in the huts for 15 days to help prevent thieves stealing the nests. Then they change shift. The smell and the bugs would put most people off the job.
Later we stayed at a lodge and went on a river cruise and saw proboscis monkeys and wild orang utans.
