A Fishy Tale

I went to Maryport today to explore the cycle trail that runs along the coast, not for cycling, but as a running route.

This intriguing sculpture of local fishermen stands adjacent to the bridge over the Riven Ellen, near the harbour. It was created by local craftsman, Colin Telfer, from haematite iron ore mixed with resin. The raw material came from the Florence Mine at Egremont, which is Europe's last working haematite mine.

I love the rich colour of the iron ore; also the attention to detail, such as the little boy's socks with one pulled up and one fallen down, and the tilt of the dog's head. The sculpture is called - "A Fishy Tale".
