Wow! Roman Forum, Palatine Hills (I met a Mancunian there who told his kids that the Palatine Way here was nothing like the Palatine Road in Didsbury, Manchester) and we stumbled into the stunning Santa Maria in Vallicella, the principal church of the Oratorians (secular priests). Whilst wandering around the Roman Forum it was incredible to see how the other half lived as early as 5c BC, with homes, lead plumbing, places of worship, shopping centres, brothels, cemeteries, churches, government offices, sports stadia, places of gathering, places of entertainment ... and so much more! Layer after layer of society, generation after generation, each, including the Christian, building on the best of the preceding generation. The phrases "what have the Romans done for us?" and "a funny thing happened on the way to the Forum" were ringing through my head. So today's blip is the view of the Roman Forum from the Palatine Hills (not Didsbury) stretching out to the Colosseum and the extra is of the church built on the ministry of secular priests. The other extra is of the best school door I've ever seen ... elementary school, so sort of KS1.
