Taking Steppes . . .

Tranquil scene could be from the steppes of the Ukraine, but it's St Elias's Ukranian Catholic Church, (larger image here) situated at the edge of our closest neighbour, Brampton, Ontario.

The tranquil countryside surrounding the church (See previous Blip) is rapidly disappearing as the city's voracious building developers gobble their way towards us, replacing farms and fields with new homes and ugly strip malls.

Georgetown has put a moratorium on development (mainly due to the lack of well water), but Brampton is serviced by unlimited (for now) water from the Great Lakes and is seemingly unconcerned about greenbelts or aquifers . . .

Soon the view will be obscured by a sea of ugly houses, filling stations and supermarkets. And we claim to be civilised . . . ?
