Chaffinch

I pedalled over to pal Helen's this morning.  Crossing the moor I noticed yummy early light on the Badger Stones then made the cardinal error of not stopping to get my blip.  I'd forgotten it was half term so it was fun to zoom round Hoot Corner just as the Haworth steam train came hooting by, and wave to the children on board.

Helen and I moved a step further on with our Yorkshire Wolds Planning and, after a cuppa and catch up, I was back on the bike and up the hill.  What happened to the weather whilst we were indoors?!  That lovely view down the Aire Valley from the Crossroads - Guide road was rapidly becoming shrouded in low, damp cloud and, by the time I reached home and washed down the muddy bike - it was full on raining!

So it's a bird blip again.  Here is a male chaffinch watching the activity on the feeders.  I'm pleased to get him because we don't have many chaffinches this year and they tend to stay off the feeders for some reason which does make me wonder if birds acquire learned behaviour from their parents.  Certainly this year's crop of starlings don't have any problems landing on the feeders, unlike previous years.
