Bamse

Sleet and rain, but the wind has subsided. Yearly checkup at Health Clinic  -  everything in order.  Lovely Chinese nurse who spoke with a broad Scottish accent.  On the bookshelf was a book entitled 'Diabets for Dummies'!  Bamse guards the entrance of the Clinic  -  during WW2 he was mascot on a Norwegian boat berthed in Montrose. Bamse moved from family pet to sea-dog to global  mascot for the Royal Norwegian forces but in July 1944 his huge heart failed and he died.   Bamse’s coffin draped with the Royal Norwegian flag with his sailor’s cap perched on it was carried by six of his boat's crew.  In Montrose hundreds of children, shopkeepers, factory workers and housewives turned out with them.  Bamse is buried in the Montrose sand-dunes on the banks of the South Esk River.
