Clare College Bridge.

Back into town as son and family are coming to visit tomorrow and I needed a few more things as I usually only buy for myself. I went to the river Cam, only a few minutes away, looking for a bit of sparkle on the water as it was a very dull day. Still a lot of tourists and punters about. This is Clare bridge, built in 1640, and the oldest current bridge in Cambridge.   One of only two left standing by the Parliamentarian forces in the Civil War, the other, a wooden bridge, no longer standing. Oliver Cromwell used the stones from the destroyed bridges to re-fortify Cambridge Castle, now the site of our Shire Hall
