Back on the rails

We took the wonderfully scenic train from Ella to Kandy. The train winds around the hills with spectacular views over forests, villages and tea plantations. The hills are so steep that it's incredible that it was possible to build a train line there. Speeds are slow and most of the line is single track with long stops at the few duel track places to wait for a train going in the opposite direction to pass.

This shot was taken from the best viewpoint - the doorway - and the extra is of my sister enjoying the best seat on the train! (We did have reserved seats but the views were better from the door.)
