Flying fox

When I saw that this shot was in focus I knew it had to be my blip for today (I’ve cropped it quite a lot though). Thousands of bats live in the Botanic Gardens in Kandy. We were there in the late afternoon and most of them were flying around making a lot of noise. It was amazing to watch. The gardens are lovely with some extraordinary trees as well as a group of fearless, resident monkeys.


In the morning we went to the “Temple of the Tooth”, the main temple in Kandy which is said to house the relic of one of Buddha’s teeth. There were a lot of Sri Lankan pilgrims, many wearing white (a holy colour) visiting the temple. The area where the tooth is kept was especially crowded with people making offerings, praying and taking photos (see extra).
