Sleddale
Completed a nine mile walk around Wet Sleddale with one of the South Lakes U3A walking groups. We went past Sleddale Hall which was used as Monty's Cottage in the 1980's cult film Withnail and I. The buildings are in the process of being renovated. Sleddale Hall does not overlook Haweswater as suggested by the film but instead looks out over Wet Sleddale reservoir. From Sleddale Hall we crossed the misleadingly named Ralfland Forest which is actually wild, desolate and very boggy moorland totally devoid of trees and then dropped down into the remote and beautiful Swindale Valley. Only a couple of very brief showers which didn't detract from what was a very enjoyable day out
