Día de les Illes Balears.
The Day of the Balearic Islands (Día de les Illes Balears) is a local public holiday on the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain, on March 1 each year. This date commemorates when the Balearic Islands' Statute of Autonomy came into effect on March 1, 1983.
Not realising it was (yet another) bank holiday, I attempted (a) to take Buster to the vet with a sore eye (he dog, not the vet), (b) to get refills for the gas bottles, and (c) to cancel my paid Orange wifi connection now that there's a newly-installed fibre-optic line available at the residential complex for free. Of course all these places were shut - no-one expects the Spanish inquisition fiesta. At first I thought it was some weird Ash Wednesday shindig, and expected hordes of the faithful to be strutting around displaying their newly-daubed brows. Instead there was dancing in the esplanada in Mahon. Those castanets were flying.
