The Bell

See that bell bollard thing on the street corner? Its designed to stop vehicles driving over the pavement - for pedestrians' safety. 

Well, there is a bollard just like this on the street corner two doors down from me. A much narrower road and cars scrape along it almost every day, without exaggeration. Then the drivers moan to the council that it shouldn't be there because of the damage it causes to their cars as they come round the corner.

The Engineers' Department gives them short shrift, pointing out that if they hit the bollard then they were mounting the pavement. Where Mums are taking children to the school along the road. And Dads.

There, so if you drive past my house, watch out for that bollard.
