today i heard that my godmother Betty died on Saturday.  having failed to find the glamorous portrait taken of her for Country Life as a debutant, or one taken of her in uniform during the war (a nod to International Woman's day), i came across this photograph of her 3 children.

book:  finished Girls of Riyadh (which i enjoyed very much), and have embarked upon Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.
