Sandham Memorial Chapel
B caught a big'un this morning, but I thought one massive fish was more than enough for a weekend.
The weather let us down and was alternating drizzle and downpour all morning so we beat a hasty retreat early afternoon and headed home via Sandham Memorial Chapel in Burghclere, Berkshire.
I visited here over twenty years ago whilst writing my A level art paper on Stanley Spencer.
The wonderful British artist, Spencer was commissioned by a local family who had lost their son in WW1. They built this unassuming chapel specifically to house a series of incredibly ordinary, and yet moving images of soldiers in Salonika, where he had also served during the war.
No photography is allowed inside the chapel, but it is definitely worth checking out the paintings via the web.
