Calypso comes to Kent....

.... on a bright sunny, early spring morning in Maidstone. Week Street was bustling, hawkers were selling their wares, Domino Pizzas offering free samples and another store offering tidbits to temp you to buy their bakes. It could have been a medieval bazzar except for the absence of straw and horse dung on the street. This chap was playing his part in creating a vibrant atmosphere and appreciated people stopping by to listen and chat.

No rugby this afternoon, very disappointing. I was down to referee a Kent League game but the opposition cried off on Thursday and there was no replacement game for me. It seems to me that there has been more of this than ever this season; a considerable number of walkovers in League games which is quite a concern. Instead I went to the allotment to begin preparations for the coming year. Removed the brassica cage and all the old plants, dug trenches where the runner beans are going, filled them with manure and compost and generally tidied up the site a bit.

Watched England thrash the Scots, which was bitter sweet really. A very good display from England but disappointing for the Scots who came to Twickenham full of hope and expectation only for that to be dashed.
