Blip Blossom Part 2
The big picture.
These are Cherry Plum trees. Prunus cerasifera.
Two Cherry Plum trees are to be found in the walled garden in Ashmeadow Woodlands near the heart of the village.
They are one of the first blossom trees to flower in late winter or early spring. They are a beautiful sight.
The fruits are a kind of cross between a cherry and a plum as the name implies.
They are very good to eat either raw, in some varieties,or cooked in pies etc.
One of the good features is that when the fruit are fully ripe you can place large sheets on the ground and when you shake the trees vigourously almost all the crop will fall.
You have to beat the birds however.
The extra shows another view.
