Sparrow Saturday

Today  was a busy day at the bird feeders. Besides the usual cardinals , juncos and seemingly endless parade of various blackbirds we had a collections of sparrows. The frequent fliers were here: tree sparrows and one lone house sparrow, but today they were joined by the advance guard of the summer visitors- song sparrows . The stars of the day though were a pair of fox sparrows, who probably were passing through on their way north and were surprised by this weeks snowstorm. The last time we had these at the feeder was a particularly snowy winter more than a few years back. That was a whole flock! The one other sparrow ( in extras) I saw was a bit of a puzzle- it looked like a song sparrow. It might be a song sparrow. But it had a short notched tail and really pink legs and I think it is a Savannah sparrow. If it is it is a first for this yard. Which means it is probably a song sparrow and wishful thinking ;)
