Bumblebee Orchid

Today we drove west. The undeveloped coastal areas of the Algarve retain some amazing botanical diversity, and one of our favourite spots is Boca do Rio. It has a lovely little beach, with sandstone cliffs and solidified dunes to one side, a limestone hill to the other, and trapped in the little valley is a good sized wetland. There are wildflower meadows, see today's extra, heathy scrub, woodland and bog, with all manner of plants and birds.
We spotted a subalpine warbler, and the orchid of the day had to be the rather understated but charming Bumblebee orchid, only two or three inches high but present in super abundance today. We also found the scarce Champagne orchid, along with the inevitable naked men!
