Sawfly orchids galore

Today was rather cool, only 15C or so, with sunshine, showers and a stiff breeze. We decided to walk rather than potter about looking for more orchids.
We headed down to Alvor, a harbour town with an amazing one mile long boardwalk out over the dunes. There were plenty of wild flowers blowing in the breeze, but we didn't dawdle, and retreated to a seafront cafe just in time to avoid a passing shower.
Then off towards Silves, and a quick stop in a lay-by to check out an orchid ended in an emergency retreat to the car as we were chased by some angry bees - don't know what we did wrong!
Then a sad discovery, road kill in the form of a lovely hoopoe, so perfect that I saved a few of its head crest feathers.
Next stop, my favourite orange blossom walk along one of the local levadas, small canals that deliver irrigation through the year, and make good level walking too. Another shower chased us back to the car again, and we headed on to Silves via the supermarket (again).
Another favourite little walk starts at Silves old windmill. However when we parked up where we thought we normally did, the windmill seemed to have disappeared behind a lot of new housing, and we had to drive around a little before we found the right route.
Then a good walk up through the gum cistus and lavender in full flower, see extras, searching for the elusive bug orchid.
Another black cloud sent us scrambling down again but on the way back to the car we found a grassy slope with superb sawfly orchids, and green winged too. Busy day!
