Secret Spot
Kaye and I were down at the Cape having a saunter along the beach when this jet ski appeared out to sea in the distance and eventually ended up in front of us. There were 3 guys, one driver and 2 surfers aboard. This was really interesting to me being a surfer from way back (actually my main impulse for emigrating from Wales to Australia was to experience the Aussie waves. I was one of the first crop of guys to take up surfing in Swansea, Sth Wales in the mid 60's.), and looking at the boards that they had on the ski - the whole thing smelled of big wave riding. Guys like these use the jet ski to get them to reefs offshore where big waves break, and where this method is the only way to access them. Anyway I thought that I knew all of the breaks along and off this particular stretch of coast. Obviously I don't - so these guys had a "secret spot" somewhere offshore. Hmmmm fascinating. I almost started singing some Beach Boys, or Jan and Dean songs - yes, I am an old surfing tragic these days.
I shot this photograph from the hip, I did about a dozen exposures surreptitiously, and was amazed at how straight I had the horizon. Must be getting good at this sneaky photography :-))
