Mountains and Penguins
No diving today. Today was the visit to Port Lockroy the British base, Goudier island. Unfortunately they had left for the season but the crew managed to open up the museum for us. We were also able to leave some postcards. Unfortunately they won’t be processed until the people get back in November this year so it will be around 12 months before they arrive back home. This was our first time to spend an entire landing with the penguins. They were very curious and came up and started to peck us if we stayed still. Saw leopard seal eat a penguin. Whale bones on the shore. In the afternoon we headed over to Damoy Point, Dorian bay for another landing and a walk around. Damoy point was used as transit station for British Antarctic Survey. Good to get off and stretch our legs. Had a nice walk around the ice to see more Gentoo and a couple of Chinstrap chicks. We were met by a fur seal on the beach. Lots of red algae on the snow. Walked around an old British and Argentine base before heading back to the ship. As this is the last night before heading back there was a BBQ on the back deck with mulled wine.
