to be by the sea

A glorious day to be by the sea. And we have spent most of the day by the sea.

Gordon is researching the railway that ran from Silloth, his home town, to Carlisle. It’s a railway he knew well as a child and so what he is trying to do is trace the route and add in his memories at the same time. So, we decided this was the perfect day to go to Silloth where he needs to start.

We spent some time following the railway route, with map in hand, and then I left him wandering around the docks and the dunes with his memories and went to walk by the sea and sit in the sun.

The sky was blue, the sea was blue, all was flat calm and the sunlight was playing on the surface of the water. Magical! Then the fishing boat just bobbed along and I had a focus. (That’s Scotland and Criffel across the Solway.)

We later went on to Allonby and then to Maryport and did some more walking by the sea. A beautiful day it continued to be. A gift. And a glorious day to be by the sea.
