Newlands Valley

Another wonderful day of uplifting scenery in warm sunshine and a rare absence of wind. With snow still clinging to the higher fells, I enjoyed the Newlands Horseshoe.

This classic round ascends the ridge on the right via Catbells, Maiden Moor and High Spy, and descends the ridge on the left via Hindsgarth. This view is from Dale Head (753m / 2,470ft) at the head of the valley looking due north to the massifs of Skiddaw and Blencathra on the skyline. At the extreme top right, one can see the start of the snowy ridge leading to Helvellyn.
