New growth?

After 5 hours solid in meetings with no real blip opportunities I have resorted to the garden.

As we enjoyed our evening meal of Italian pizza, Dutch tomatoes, Spanish rocket and wine French dressing and some Scottish cheese I reflected on today's news.

In fact I wrote quite a lot about my feelings of melancholy today - though I know for many it is a day to be welcomed.

But in the end I've kept them as a personal record of my thoughts today which I will revisit in the months ahead.

If I sum them up I wonder not just about economic growth - and I have my long-term doubts - but also about the direction in which society in parts of the UK is developing and whether it is one I am comfortable with.
