Tour de la Lanterne - La Rochelle
After lunch today we drove into La Rochelle and took a sea bus to the old historic part of town. We then went up the Tour de la Lanterne, which is one of the 3 historic towers guarding the port.
I found it really interesting... it used to be an old prison used for enemy sailors. There were lots of references of Guernsey sailors who had ended up there! The whole place is completely round and by the time we had climbed right to the top, we were all quite dizzy. Great views of La Rochelle from the top though!
