Ile d'Aix

We got up bright and early today to go to the Ile d'Aix. It's a small island, just off the coast of La Rochelle, with no cars, reached only by boat.

We had a very long wait for the boat, due to the tides, but boy was the wait worth it. It was such a beautiful island. We hired bikes and after lunch, cycled all the way around the island.

As the tide was coming up, the kids wanted to stop on the Atlantic side to watch the waves. They got a shock as the waves were bigger than they had expected... it was just fortunate that I had my camera to hand at just that moment!
