An ordinary street
An ordinary street in the village of Haydon Bridge, but an extraordinary day for this family. Here you see Jayne Laetitia Bell walking from her family home towards the Methodist Chapel at the other end of the street. On her left is her brother, James, who will give her away to be married to Joseph Robert Tulip.
Their two sisters are the bridesmaids immediately behind them.
This was such a delightful wedding. It was completely unpretentious. There were tulips and (hare)bells on the home made orders of service.
The romantic story is worth hearing. In October 2015, the area was hit with floods. The chapel was flooded and so was the cellar of the Bells' new home. It is the old Post Office. They had just moved in. One of the girls sent a message on Facebook to see if anyone in the community could help them to bale out the cellar. Joseph Tulip was one of those who responded.
The rest, as they say, is history and the couple will start their new life together in a little flat in the village.
The service was conducted beautifully by Ann Taylor the deacon. At the end she read from the Song of Solomon: "Many waters cannot drown love; neither can the floods drown it.
We wish the young couple much happiness.
PS I can't resist telling you that the best man chewed gum throughout the ceremony and was checking his mobile phone as he walked down the aisle at the end!!
Julie came to eat with us. She and I went to see Two Way Mirror by Arthur Miller, performed in Bardon Mill Village Hall by the Theatre in the Lake company from Keswick. Brilliant. So hot in the hall I thought that someone would faint, never mind the tension on stage!
