A find when digging

Our long suffering neighbour found this pot when digging around an old cottage on their land. The pot is intact with a worn looking cork top and inside the residue of linseed oil - some liquid some solid but most definitely the smell. The chaps thought that although the cork was worn in places the oil had sealed it to the jar. We then tried to work out when the cottage was last inhabited (it's now fallen) and estimated the jar could be a hundred years old. What the oil would have been used for is yet to be fathomed. Under the rubble was an earth floor, what an eye opener.
