Celandines
Today's the day ......................... to define
weed wiːd/
noun: weed; plural noun: weeds
1. a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants. eg. "keep the seedlings clear of weeds"
2. a contemptibly feeble person eg.
"he thought party games were for weeds and wets"
I suppose these celandines growing in a shady spot in the garden could be looked upon as 'weeds'. I certainly never planted them and they just appear every year in ever increasing numbers.
On the other hand, they look so pretty at this time of the year and they grow where nothing else is having to compete with them. So, really, the only part of the definition (No 1) that they fulfill is that they are 'wild'.
Not sure whether they are party animals or whether they just enjoy the quiet life .....................
