Mammallaria Numéro Deux
A few days ago I posted my first Mammallaria cactus flower. It was a single flower but also in that photo were two giant buds just waiting to burst. This pair is the product of those cool buds. They are very pretty with a black background.
It's a lovely day. It has reached 81°/27°, the high for the day. It's sunny but with a high, thin layer of clouds, just enough to let the sunshine through without its usual intensity. There's a slight hint of a breeze, too.
Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. For some reason, hearing the Passion of Christ always makes my eyes well up with tears. It was the penultimate betrayal. A week of sorrow ending with such joy. This is my favorite holiday*. For me, it's the most meaningful.
*Word Origin for holiday
n. 1500s, earlier haliday (c.1200), from Old English haligdæg "holy day; Sabbath," from halig "holy" (see holy ) + dæg "day" (see day ); in 14c. meaning both "religious festival" and "day of recreation," but pronunciation and sense diverged 16c.
